An Intro to Fiction & Its Afterlives

Screen Shot 2018-03-10 at 6.57.35 PMIn this Introduction to Fiction course, my students and I explored the elements of fiction by exploring Bram Stoker’s 1897 Dracula and adaptations thereof in literature, film, and new media. We set out to discuss what fiction does and why it matters and how the answers to those questions might change over time.

In this class, I used adaptation theory and incorporated a variety of new media before encouraging students to engage creatively by creating collaborative adaptations of Dracula using Storium, a storytelling platform that operates like a role playing game (RPG) to encourage creative writing.
